MOOCs

I am indeed passionate about learning and try to keep myself up to speed with the ever growing fields of study, which extends from molecular genetics to systems biology; astronomy to astrobiology; geology to climate change; medicine to nanotechnology; finance to rhetorics; and from philosophy to principles of digital democracy. Thanks to the concept of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and Coursera which enabled millions across the globe in fulfilling their thirst for knowledge and learning. MOOCs had virtually revolutionized the online education in the recent past.

Although MOOCs may not match an ideal classroom like setting in terms of the teaching and learning exposure one receives, the phenomenon took the online learning by storm due to its flexibility in scheduling thus catering to a whole new sections of the communities at large, which otherwise would not be able to pursue their inherent passion for learning. It is evolving day by day. Though several platforms including top universities and institutions world over are offering these courses, I found Coursera’s approach to be pedagogical, engaging, and constantly adapting itself while providing a better environment for students online. Others doing a yeoman service in this business of knowledge sharing include: EdX, Udemy, Khan Academy, Udacity etc. Finally, the world is in need of more well-informed, educated individuals who are equipped to make rational decisions in their own life, for the sake of humanity, and this planet. I am sure MOOCs will provide an ideal platform towards this end.

Here are some of the courses I completed on Coursera as part of sheer learning, testing and/or auditing. Click on the image for details:
